Keeping yourself clean and healthy is a basic human need and something the vast majority of us take for granted. We think nothing of our daily routines of washing, toileting and taking care of ourselves. This is important for both our ongoing health as well as maintaining a happy and healthy frame of mind.

When might someone need personal care?

Sometimes people can’t maintain their normal levels of care and appearance for a variety of reasons. They might not be physically capable, they might forget, or it might seem unimportant to them.

This can be unsettling for both the person and their loved ones. It’s important for our health that we stay clean and as mobile as possible. For many, it is important for their mental health too. For some that’s as simple as a wash and brushed hair, others need a full face of makeup and some nice clothes and toiletries.

Often, the first thing that is noticed by loved ones, when a vulnerable person is struggling, is that they aren’t taking as good care of themselves as they used to.

Maybe they don’t have the energy or mobility they used to due to illness, maybe they can’t see as well and don’t notice things being missed, or maybe they have a degenerative condition that causes them to forget about personal care.

HOW PERSONAL CARE CAN HELP

Getting support for yourself or a loved one with personal care needs can be a great help – emotionally and physically.

Assist Care Group have specially trained carers who support people with dignity and respect at all times, in their own homes.

We work together with our clients to create a plan for your specific requirements and take care to match the right care worker with the right client.

Sometimes the care someone requires, especially for more intimate tasks, might not be easy for a family member to provide. It could cause a change in the relationship that they feel uncomfortable with.

We help people every day with a wide variety of needs such as:

  • Personal hygiene – showering, toileting, bed baths, preventing bed sores
  • Personal grooming activities – shaving, dressing, makeup, hair care, applying lotions
  • Practical care – dressing and getting ready for bed
  • Health care – changing continence pads, colostomy bags and catheters.

We work together with our clients to help maintain their normal level of routine and lifestyle and will always be mindful of giving them their own space and independence to perform tasks they want to do for themselves.

RESPITE CARE

Many people find themselves caring for their loved ones without training or support physically or emotionally. This can take its toll.

It’s important for carers to have time for leisure activities, employment, medical appointments or just have some worry-free downtime.

This is possible with respite care. We give carers the freedom to have some time for themselves, which, as well as being crucial both logistically and for their mental health, gives them more energy to spend with their loved ones.

RE-ENABLEMENT CARE

We can also deliver re-ablement services to vulnerable people who want or need to relearn certain skills to build up their confidence and independence.

This improves their quality of life and emotional health. We specialise in matching individual goals to each client and encourage independence wherever possible or appropriate.

We recognise the importance of offering choices and delivering flexible services to get everyone involved in the best way forward to meet support needs.
